"Wow. Sheltered doesn't even begin to describe it. Well, I can't say sheltered." The long-tailed fox closed his eyes, swallowed, and turned his most serious face on his companion. "Kils, I'm sorry to say this, but it's obvious that someone has been hurting you from the way you react to me."
Again, his hand came out, resting on her shoulder and gently stroking a bit before scooting closer, putting an arm around her. "But as long as I'm around, I'm not going to let anyone hurt you. It's not right." Warp gave her a bit of a hug, hoping it would help calm her down and stop her trembling. "Is there anyone you trust, anyone I can help you find to take care of you?"

Kils flinched again as he touched her and curled up more, as though if she made herself small enough she would simply disappear. And would that be so bad? To disappear to a place of nothingness? There would be no pain or comfort, no cold or warm, just nothingness. But then again that wouldn't be true. Nothingness was just an illusion. After all, nothing itself was something, and in a place of nothingness it would be the only something. Therefore nothing would become everything, pain and comfort, cold and warm... Then she realized something as Warp hugged her. He was warm. She had found something warm in the vast iciness of this place. Finally she turned and looked at the other fox. He looked so sincere and gentle. Come to think of it, he hadn't actually hurt her this entire time. "Well..." she stared meekly, "I've been trying to find my brother... but I have no idea where he could be..."

"No idea...." Warp looked up, thinking hard. "Well, why not get started? I got nothing better to do." Warp looked Kils over. "Well, there's one thing we should do first. We need to get you a coat, something to wear to keep the cold out."
From what Warp remembered, those not used to the cold here would probably wind up with pneumonia. There was a place where warmth was rampant, but you had to pay to be there. Well, you did if they knew you were there and had not paid. Which was one of Warp's strong points. However, if Kils didn't get a coat, then their search would be limited to White Fang's city. There was no garuntee that he'd be there.
Lowering his hug so that his hand touched Kils' arm, flecks of black began to shoot across his eyes as he said, "I'm going to take you somewhere to get a coat so you can stay warm, okay?" He wasn't going to go until she knew what was going on and was alright with it.

"Something to... keep the cold out?" Kils said in a child-like manner, looking at Warp with big, innocent eyes. A 'cote' would be nice if it worked the way he said. No, she couldn't, it would be greedy. He had already offered to help her find Simon, even though she hadn't done anything for him, how could she even think of accepting more from him? "I... I'm sorry, but I don't deserve a 'cote.' I haven't done anything to earn it at all... I mean, I want one but... taking something I don't deserve... that's greedy..."

Warp rolled his eyes. "You can't be serious. For one, what the h*ll are you talking about, don't deserve it? And for two, it's not like anyone else is using them. If they'd wanted one, they'd have taken one by now. Any coats that are left, nobody has any use for, and so if anybody does want them, they're up for grabs."
Figuring that she had no objection to going anywhere, only to the actual aquisition, the flecks of black in Warp's eyes intensified. "For three, nobody around here gets what they deserve anymore. Those who deserve better are denied things they need to live, like food, clothes, shelter. And those who deserve to die are king of the hill, taking what they want from anyone who can't defend themselves." He sighed. "Things really have gone to h*ll over the past couple of years. Here we go." He would have a few more things to say when they landed.
Then they were gone, into that wonderland where everything was so loud it was silent, so bright there was darkness, and everything was so confusing that you understood the secrets of the universe without trying. Nothing was what it seemed, and nothing meant what you thought.
